Quantum Surveys are privileged and excited to be working on the world’s largest radio telescope with SKA Observatory – SKAO.
Quantum’s Peter Redway has been working on the project and is a part of the 56,000+ sheets of steel mesh laid so far with help from the Tiny Robot.
Here are some more of the overall stats from the project:
- 800+ staff & contractors
- 400km+ of roads built or upgraded
- 109 dish foundations completed
- 21 central processing facility modules installed
- 15,000+ SKA-low antennas installed
- 7 dishes assembled (16 on their way to site)
The first image captured this year by the unfinished SKA-Low radio telescope on Wajarri Yamaji country in WA’s Murchison region, has revealed a rare galaxy with a supermassive black hole at its heart, proving the multi-billion-dollar observatory was already functioning “considerably better” than expected!
