Reference Marks

Boundary pegs don’t last forever and more often than not, will get damaged or destroyed over time.  To help re-establish that position for future surveys, a surveyor can place reference marks relating to that boundary corner noting the distances from the reference mark to the peg.  Most reference marks are steel spikes placed 300mm below ground level.  We bury them to give them the best chance to survive.  Reference marks can also include spikes in the road or drill holes or nails in footpaths….anywhere which is safe from the public and likely to survive over time.  Reference marks are the first thing a surveyor looks for when doing a boundary survey.
